This is one of the two wild areas in Pennsylvania, including the Quehanna Wild Area. I've been to both. I've been to Hammersly many times, it truly is wild and it's fun to backpack and hike here, as well as ride bikes, ATVs, and snowmobiles. It's a beautiful area far from civilization to relax and enjoy God's creation.

Such pristine wilderness

We did the Forrest H Dutlinger natural area hike to the giant hemlock, quite a tree and quite a hike. The cable ' bridge' crossing hammersly fork was interesting and fun to do.

Really a wild area

The trail markings are more or less none existent on the flat area along hammersly fork before you reach beech bottom run but they're not really needed, stay on the left side, or west side and follow hammersly fork to the first main creek on the left and you're at beech bottom run. Along beech run the markings are better but it's a well cared for trail and again the markings really aren't needed.

One of Pennsylvania's best natural resources! Unlogged for over 100 years, the area is slowly reverting to what the forest once was long ago. Definitely worth a visit for any adventure-minded visitor to this area of the state. Lots of hiking and bushwhacking potential. Try to find yourself the old-growth and hidden pools for added adventure!
